Directions

  1. Chill the glass
  2. Fill glass with crushed ice
  3. Fill the shaker with ice
  4. Add the white rum, Blue Curaçao, pineapple juice, and coconut cream
  5. Shake until well-chilled
  6. Strain into glass
  7. Spritz orange oil mist once over the drink, then garnish with a pineapple slice and maraschino cherry

History

The Blue Hawaiian Cocktail has a fascinating history! It was created in 1957 by Harry Yee, the head bartender at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Hawaii. A sales representative from the Dutch distiller Bols asked Yee to design a drink featuring their Blue Curaçao liqueur, leading to the birth of this iconic tropical cocktail. The drink was originally made with rum, pineapple juice, Blue Curaçao, and sweet-and-sour mix, though variations sometimes include vodka. Despite its name, the Blue Hawaiian is often confused with the Blue Hawaii, which does not contain cream of coconut.
