History
The Bay Breeze cocktail is a close relative of the Sea Breeze, with a key difference, it swaps grapefruit juice for pineapple juice, giving it a sweeter, tropical twist. Its origins trace back to the mid-20th century, likely emerging alongside the Sea Breeze during a marketing push by Ocean Spray and the Cranberry Growers Association in the 1960s. These organizations promoted cranberry juice as a cocktail mixer, leading to the rise of vodka-cranberry-based drinks like the Cape Codder, Sea Breeze, and Bay Breeze. The Bay Breeze gained popularity in the 1980s, becoming a staple of beachside and summer drinking culture.
